carousel contortion puppet video

the painting has kinda been slow. but i got some cool video going. my big project got scaled back a bit. i'm still proud to be working with one of my favorite artists ever! daniel martin diaz does cool surreal mideival religious iconagraphy with a hispanic visceral edge to it! well he has this band, blind devine and wanted some video work. the original idea was more extensive but we scaled it back alittle to test the water. clik the pic to check out the short 2.6MB quicktime clip, i still managed to squeeze in a dead reagan puppet and some contortion girls!

ahhh, the stuff of my favorite nightmares! it is really satisfying to hear daniel gush over my work!! also a 8MB windows media version here.

i found this great public domain footage of coney island in 1952 on archive.org, already it had a slight seedy edge. i was mostly after the great animatrons and dark clowns of which there were many! a carousel caliope soundtrack and a touch of cannibol effects and woohah! clik the pic to check out the 6.65MB quicktime clip

or a big 27 MB widows media version

or a 9 MB real player version

there's even a quick alice animatron if you watch close. the dodo and the white rabbit!
i've been dying to see the 1911 and 1915 silent versions of alice in wonderland i guess for $7 you can download it and more at movieflix.

and check out the awesome art of daniel martin diaz and his and paulas band blind devine

Many Thanks!

The Coney Island piece brought back amazing memories for me. I was a kid in the `50s and I loved it when my parents took me to Coney Island. We went twice a year.

Re: Many Thanks!

i wish there was such footage of our local vintage park, euclid beach. it was torn down in the 70's. but i guess caliopes were the techno of the day, replacing real musicians, haha.

Your work as always lovely. The Coney Island clip an amazing time capsule. The footage of the arcade fortune teller alone was exciting to me. May need to watch it again to see if I can figure out her make and model. Daniel's work is beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing such wonderful treasures!

thanks, ronda! the fortune teller part sends chills up my spine! if you are up on fortune tellers or animatrons let me know if you see any graphics(photos, drawings, video) relating to them, they would be cool to animate!

Getting ready to list new antiques on my site so I'll dig through my fortune telling stuff. I know there are old illustrations not sure if there are any actual photographs.

Re: both are....

i haven't been to coney island since the 70's and it was perfectly seedy then, the rumour is mcdonalds owns it now :( ~~
you need an encoder like canopus procoder, it can make web versions for all the players or vcd's. 30 minutes is prolly a huge file.

vintage animatrons are so cool! some guys had organ grinders with animatrons at jexo's icecream fest yesterday, and a great band organ! i learned the differance between a caliope and a band organ.
